To the point: The exponential rise in the number of positive COVID-19 cases in Mumbai is alarming everyone. Despite repeated warnings, there still are Mumbaikars who are not practicing social distancing and are increasing the chances of spreading and contracting the virus. Especially vegetables markets.
Seeing that callous behaviour, Mumbai Mayor Shri Kishori Pednekar has warned people that if people don’t listen or practice social distancing, she will be forced to shut down vegetable markets too. She also added that people wouldn’t be affected much if they don’t have vegetables for eight days.
Reports fly in of people not taking necessary precautions while buying vegetables at markets, not maintaining social distancing, and flouting lockdown rules.
Overcrowding at Dadar vegetable market led to its shut down. Earlier BMC had shifted the Dadar Senapati Bapat Marg vegetable market to four locations in the city, Somaiya Ground in Sion, MMRDA Grounds in BKC, Octroi Naka in Mulund and Octroi Naka in Dahisar.
We urge all to stay home and stay safe. We have entered the community spread stage and we need to diligently practice social distancing for our safety and for the safety of others around us.
