Elon Musk changes Twitter’s name to “X”; the new logo will be unveiled today.
Elon Musk, the businessman behind Tesla and SpaceX, has been referring to his purchase of Twitter as X Corp ever since he did so. It’s interesting that it is now the name of its official legal entity. At this point, it seems likely that X Corp will also take over the role of Twitter’s consumer-facing brand.
Musk’s Tweets Suggest Change Coming to Twitter
Musk revealed his plans to globally switch the recognisable Twitter bird logo to a ‘X’ emblem as early as Sunday or Monday in a late-night tweet on Saturday. The change, he added, would be contingent upon obtaining a well-made “X” logo that was submitted on time. Soon later, Musk hinted that his dream might have come true by teasing a little animation on Sunday that had a ‘X’ logo on a black background.
Uncertainty over Twitter’s future branding
The Twitter blue bird logo and business name may not be around for very long, according to Musk’s social media tweets. Despite being in charge of the business that Musk bought last year, Linda Yaccarino, Twitter’s “CEO,” hasn’t commented on the impending move on her own Twitter account despite Musk’s explicit aspirations to rebrand the network.
Musk’s Love Affair with the Letter ‘X’
Elon Musk’s preference for the letter “X” is clear in the names he has given his different businesses. When his previous firm with that name joined with another, eventually establishing the online payment behemoth, he gave it the moniker “x.AI” and voiced his fervent wish for “X” to be the name of PayPal.
Twitter is still operating as usual, and its signature blue bird emblem is being used to identify it. However, given Musk’s unpredictability and track record of rebranding initiatives, the future of Twitter’s branding may soon be in his hands.
