<p>The UK competition authority launched formal research on Amazon and Google&#8217;s Alphabet on Friday about worries tech titans didn&#8217;t do enough to counteract false reviews. The move follows a CMA survey that started in May 2020 and evaluated numerous platforms&#8217; internal mechanisms and procedures for identifying and managing fake reviews.</p>

<p>CMA has indicated that it will now collect more information to assess if the companies have breached consumer law by taking inadequate measures to safeguard customers from false reviews.</p>
